It's Not How Good you Are . . .

I can't tell you how tired I am of hearing how good people are when it comes to martial arts and self-defense training. When it comes to anything for that matter!

In the realm of success and personal development training, whether it be through the martial arts or something else, it can be difficult to stay focused on the ultimate goal and not the temporary accomplishment or stage you've achieved. This is what most people do - even those who profess to be working on personal development.

Do you know the story of the trained flea?

No?

Well, it's not really a story as much as scientifically proven fact that I and many others use to convey a very important lesson. The question is...

... are you a flea?

A flea? What do you have in common with a flea?

Do you know what happens when fleas are placed in a jar that itself is covered with a lid? Right...

Those fleas do what they do best - they jump. And they jump high.

They continually jump and bump into the lid of the jar. They do this again and again and...

Well, you get the idea.

But, do you know what eventually happens?

The fleas accept the fact that they can only jump so high and...

... they stop jumping any higher than "just enough."

You can actually take the lid off the jar and they won't jump out. Because of a few bumps on the head, they discover the 'way' to jump high without hurting themselves. But, they stop trying altogether. They stop at that level and, even after they have the opportunity to once again exceed their current level...

... they don't.

Have you stopped jumping. Do you jump as high as you can - Today? Or, have you chosen to be satisfied with your "PAST" achievement?

You know you're good. I believe that you're good. And I'm sure that others know you're good. But, the question here isn't "how good you are"...

The question is "how good do you want to be?!
